Personal Statement

I am an 8th grade student athlete currently at Hong Kong International School. I'm applying to boarding school for the Fall of 2026 for 9th grade. My main sports are Volleyball and Chinese Kung Fu. I've been playing Volleyball for 3 years and on the school team since 6th grade. I'm intensely focused on improving my volleyball skills as a front row hitter, but I also work hard on improving all-around skills. I like being competitive and training hard, while also having fun and showing team spirit! I would love to play at the Varsity level in High School.

I have been learning and practicing Chinese Kung Fu for 4.5 years. Kung Fu is more than a sport for me. The practice is also about the mind, the body, community and respect. I have recently achieved my Black Belt, 2nd Dan and am training for my Black Belt, 3rd Dan. I also volunteer as a teaching assistant in the lower belt classes for younger kids. I would love to continue practicing martial arts at boarding school by starting a club.

My team members, coaches, and Kung Fu School are important communities to me. I've gained a lot of valuable friendships and mentors and I hope to continue building on these experiences in High School.
